We came, we camped, we caved

Memorial Day weekend, we had grand plans to go tent camping at the beach. We did that a couple years ago with Ally and figured we knew what it entailed. Wrong.

The northern coast of Oregon was as beautiful as advertised, but also VERY windy (we’re talking sand-blasting the baby) and quite chilly (mid-40s at night). Samantha coughed half the night and kept waking up confused and cold, despite being wrapped like a mummy.

One of our biggest issues was what to do with her during the day, since our crawling and curious 8 month-old couldn’t really ever be let loose on the ground since she’d try to put everything into her mouth. And the beach itself (our camping area was on the other side of the dunes) was too windy and cold for her. We took her down there briefly, but retreated as we realized she was getting sand driven into her eyes at about 25-30 mph.

Ally and I went down the following morning, but she was over it shortly after wading into the surf briefly and getting really cold. So we bailed after one night in the tent and grabbed a hotel room.

At least we got some pretty pictures.

I really admire your photography. You have wonderful color and composition. The photopgraphs of your children are so natural and spontaneous. What camera do you use for digital?
